ACT BRAVE (52) 12/10/2001 9:00p
Taylor likes to ignore orders. Carlos likes his bird. Yokas likes Harry Potter Legos.

{voiceover}
Taylor: "Be brave and the world will respect you." That’s what my dad used to drill into us. As if we had the slightest idea what the word brave even meant. Like it was supposed to come natural to us. As kids of a legendary fire captain it should be in our blood, right? Who the hell knows? It’s probably why I went after this job in the first place. Just to show him. Show him I could be brave. Earn some of that respect he always talked about. Figured if I did this job long enough and well enough I might someday qualify as brave in his book. Not that I’ll ever know that now…"

Colleen Frewer: You would be Mr. Doherty?
Jimmy: Jimmy, please.
Kim: Look, don’t start flirting with my associate now, okay?

Taylor: Does she have a name?
Carlos: Bird.
Davis: Bird?
Taylor: I can tell you two have really bonded.
Carlos: Yeah. I’m not hung up on names.

{about Carlos}
Davis: My roommate.
Taylor: My sympathies.
Davis: Thank you.

{about Carlos}
Taylor: He thinks you’re gay you know.
Davis: He does, doesn’t he? Well, I’m pretty sure he thinks you are too.
Taylor: Fine by me. Anything to discourage him.

{about the lady in charge of the nursing home}
Sully: Why were you busting her chops?
Tatiana: She needs chops busted.

Carlos: I still have a king sized bed in the hall.
Taylor: You know, as much as it creeps me out to touch it, Carlos, I’ll help you with that.

{about Davis’ bed}
Carlos: So what’s this, a…queen?
Davis: Yes, yes, a queen. A big old queen.

{about Joey’s friends}
Margo Rodriguez: All girls?
Kim: Mostly. Apple doesn’t fall far, I guess.

{about his putting his mother in the nursing home}
Sully: Look, you don’t know the Sophie’s choice I went through deciding to put her there in the first place.
Tatiana: Who is Sophie?

Sully: She’s my mother, she’s my responsibility.
Davis: Okay. Back to the home she goes.

{they get a call for a suspicious powder}
Yokas: 99 percent of these calls are bogus and you probably have no reason to suspect that somebody would target you.
Lou: Then what’s the problem?
Bosco: Problem is you got two cops here who aren’t about to go down in history for letting that one percent get away that takes out the entire Eastern Seaboard.

Yokas: You’re getting pretty good at that speech.
Bosco: Yeah, well, you say it enough time in the day…

Bosco: Screw jail time. You know what we should do? Parachute these jagoffs right into Osama land.
Yokas: Yeah, right after a sex change.
Bosco: Amen.

Bosco: Imagine that, Hazmat’s backed up.

Yokas: All I want is some Harry Potter Legos.
Bosco: Excuse me?

{about books made into movies}
Bosco: ‘The Godfather,’ ‘Jaws,’ ‘Silence of the Lambs.’ I "read" them all.

Lombardo: What kitchen planner puts a gas valve behind a 400-pound stove?

Nazira: You won’t leave me?
Taylor: I got nowhere else to be.

Jimmy: Any update on our gas bill?
Lombardo: {over radio} Keyspan just got here.
Jimmy: If they’d hurry, we’d appreciate it.

Sully: So much for business as usual, huh?
Davis: Yeah, those days are long gone.

Bosco: Hazmat cleared the dental office. Cornstarch again.
Yokas: Those bastards got me.
Sully: Who?
Yokas: "Who"? Them. I knew that powder was crap. And I would’ve known that fire was just a fire, but with them happening, you know, so close together, at that moment they succeeded. They had me wondering. They got me good.

Davis: As long as people are scaring easily, there’s idiots happy to scare them.

Doc: No fatalities…not one.

{to Taylor}
Davis: Zero fatalities, perfect score.

{to Taylor, about their fathers}
Davis: You could eat a hundred apples and not think of him. But then you’ll bite into that one, somehow you just feel him. It’s like he’s right there with you.

Taylor: My dad would always come in and tell me" any daughter of mine is too brave to be afraid." I know I didn’t feel brave, so I’d just pretend. I figured if I could make him think I was, maybe that’d be good enough.
Davis: Was it?
Taylor: It worked today.
